It doesn't take that long to set up. And once it's set up it's pretty easy. I stayed out about an hour, but have a couple of dozen shots that are "keepers."

It has to be a light, floating snowfall. Then, I put a black card on a stool, so I can move the card around to be under the camera set up with a macro lens on a tripod pointing down. Have the camera pre-focused on the card, and set on "spot exposure." When a good flake falls nice and flat, you slide the card under the camera and take a shot before it melts. It's fun. :-)
