Today we are going to melt stuff, as suggested by Skyangel.

Fans of the show 'Friends' may remember Frank, Phoebe's younger brother. He too looooved to melt stuff!

He melted everything he could get his hands on... In this contest, we are going to do exactly that, just digitally!

Take any object and make it appear as if it is melting. As we hopefully keep it digital, animals and people are also allowed! If you do follow any tutorials or use external sources, don't forget to list them in your description. This will allow people to judge your entry better.

To get some inspiration, have a look at this tutorial on how to melt a face.

Important to mention: starting now, entries can be voted on with a 5-100 scale. This in contrast with the previous method, which was just liking the entry. This way we can achieve more accurate results.

Oh and if you never watched Friends, here's Phoebe's brother at work:

Good luck!

Nice, can you add an empty line between your sources? I Can't click em

Author replied to IEatRawEggs:

just done it

Nice job with the depth of field. I would suggest a line in the vinyl where it starts to flow from the table. Good job.

Author replied to Chalty669:

Thanks for your advice Chalty669 ! I have made the correction but i don't know how i can remplace the picture ? Could you explain that to me ;)

I’m sorry, there doesn’t seem to be an edit button. Perhaps this will be an option the site creator will add in the future. One can only hope.

Author replied to Chalty669:

Yes i agree with you because we all try to improve and listen to the advices and have the opportunity to progress ;)

Nice, you should maybe let some wax drip from the top, where the flame is

Author replied to IEatRawEggs:

Thank you for the suggestion! I made some alterations, but it doesn’t seem like there’s an edit option.

I agree with Eggs about more wax dripping from the top but overall you did an excellent job of the drops. They look very 3D and not flat. You obviously took a lot of time to do each one individually on a new layer and did not just drag the liquify tool over the whole face. The title also tells the story. It is very thought provoking. Excellent work.

Author replied to Skyangel:

Thank you for looking at the details and commenting. I agree with both of you about the candle top. I have posted my updated version with my sources if you would like to see it. I just decided against reposting for now.

The drip on the jacket is a nice touch as well. Excellent!

He should be worried about his ear instead of the balloon :D

Author replied to IEatRawEggs:

Yes I know! he didn't notice everything yet 😋all he cares for is the balloon.

Overall I like the selection and layout of your sources. I might of chose to keep the fabrics on the ground from your boy source. Removing it messed with the boys back foot. I really like that you removed the extra shadow from the chair which allows a more cohesive shadow with the boy. Good job!

Author replied to Chalty669:

Thanks for your comment! You watched carefully my chop and it makes me happy 😀

Overall, this looks nice. Couple nitpicks would be the liquify tool being pulled through other areas of the body. To prevent picking up the other colors, you could make a selection of the area you’re liquify and move it to another layer. Also the drip from the right pinky is flowing in front instead of behind the arm. I like that you added clipping light on the right of the model. Great job!

Hot Party Bis...

I download this new version with correction, sorry but there is no edit button to cancel the first one !

It looks a little blurry

Skyangel avatarLevel 11
Skyangel replied to IEatRawEggs:

The blurriness of the ball and racket adds to the sense of movement. It's actually technically done very well because the far side of the racket has not been deformed, only the middle part of it.

Chalty669 avatarLevel 7
Chalty669 says:

I do understand the motion blur, but wonder if a little less blur on the hand might look better? The background looks like it is cut off at the bottom, but that net looks like it was difficult. It really took me a while to figure out how I would replicate it. Good job!

Author replied to Chalty669:

Thanks for the comments. I went back and forth on the motion blur but in the end decided to keep it. I had to cut out the far side of the racquet then liquefy the net then place it below the net. I worried more about ghosting in the net than anything else.

Really nice blend and overall color. Only nitpick is some cloning smudge on both sides of the tower. The texture overlay really brings everything together. Good job!

Nice job blending your sources. She looks like she’s trying to hold her face from falling off. One suggestion would be some highlights on the edges of the face near the candles. Good job!

Author replied to Chalty669:

Thank y ou Chalty. I have already put a large orange highlight for all the candles together. As long as there is no "edit" option, I won't touch it...

I really like the drips coming from the back of your head. I do think the flames might take too much attention away from your face. I find myself wondering what it would look like with a clean whitish background and your head centered. Overall great job!

The stilts and puddles are great but I suggest you puppet warp the toes of the frog as well so they are hanging down and don't look like they are standing on a sheet of invisible glass.

A really great entry but I think the camera should be a bit larger. It looks too small in comparison with the phone.

Author replied to Skyangel:

Thanks a lot Skyangel ! It's not a phone but a Apple Ipad ;)

I thought you cropped the head off because it was too difficult to give a melt effect, but the source doesn't have a head either :D

Author replied to IEatRawEggs:

As you said, the source has no head and it was what i wanted ! I think i will have no problem to melt a face ;)

Excellent work. Its very unique. A bit creepy with eyeballs and lips in the puddles but still one of my favorites.

Author replied to Skyangel:

Thank you Skyangel. This was my first "melting" type Photoshop. It was a good learning experience for sure. I am pleased that you like it. Boy did that sound corny? :D

Skyangel avatarLevel 11
Skyangel replied to Rubber-Ray: bronze award

Yep! Hard to believe it's your first "melting" type manip. It looks far too professional.

Author replied to Skyangel:

I think this is one of those super ultra mega rare Chops that just work out somehow. The only issue was blending in the first eye into the puddle. I had no clue how to do it but somehow it worked out. Used the same method on the other eye and lips and it was smooth sailing (relatively). The only other prob was doing the final global refinements. I spent two hours making it better and better and better. "Oooh this looks good! WOW that looks great!" Came back an hour later only to find out it looked worse! As an artist yourself, I am sure you can relate to that. UGGHH! :D. So I went back to basics, and literally in 5 minutes I had my final refinements done. I reckon sometime less is better.

Author replied to Skyangel:

And I am full on blushing from "It looks far too professional.". Thank you!! Made my day.
