Banh Bao created by Olga.L

This is banh bao or in China is called Baozi. One of my "gotta get me one" foods as we walk the streets of Vietnam. It is an exotic thrill to munch on. The bread is yeast-leavened and is sweet and light and steamed. Inside is a treasure trove of savoury foods including a quail's egg with minced pork delightfully "prickly" with just the right amount of seasoning to make you yearn for another.

Borscht created by Olga.L

One of my favourite foods is Borscht, an Eastern European vegetable soup made with beets. Ukraine has been cited as the originator of this soup. Whenever I eat it, my mind takes me to my mother's kitchen and memories of my childhood are resurrected. It was a time when I felt safe and loved. I can eat this vegetable soup/stew every day and with a hearty slice of bread, it always feels so nourishing.

You don't often see a bright red color for a dish, I have never heard of borscht. In this way we still learn from photography.

Olga.L avatarLevel 16
Olga.L replied to Marleen :

Marleen, this soup was Diana's favourite (or so I read in a gossip magazine of long ago). It is easy to make and here is a recipe for you https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/84450/ukrainian-red-borscht-soup/

I do not use meat base so you can skip the pork sausages (my mom never used that). At the end of the cooking process add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to give it a bit of a "piing". Also, if you do make it do not be afraid to see that your bowel movements are red the next day....it does not mean you have suddenly developed something serious, it just means the beets are going through you....also your urine may turn pinkish....no problem.

Zizounai replied to Olga.L :

Olga, there are 5 courses in an Italian meal, this is why the dish looks small:
- Aperitivo. The aperitivo opens a meal, and it is similar to an appetizer
- Antipasto. The antipasto is a slightly heavier starter
- Primo. A primo is the first course
- Secondo e contorno
- Insalata (salad)
- Formaggi e frutta (cheese and fruit)
- Dolce (dessert)
- Digestivo con caffè

There is a delicate ethereal feel to this image, it feels otherworldly in that glow/ ghosting that can be seen around the edges of the plate. Nice blurred background in muted colours that do not distract from the main subject of marron coloured wine. The reflections on the glass of wine echo the background. A pleasing image to study and get lost in....I enjoyed viewing it.

Potjevleesch created by Zizounai

One of my very favorite meals! Let me introduce to you the Potjevleesch (bless you πŸ˜‰). This dish, originated from Flanders, consists of cuts of white meat like pork, rabbit, chicken and veal that are marinated in white wine or beer, then cooked together with onions, carrots, bay leaves, and cooled in successive layers in a terrine with a vinegar gelatin. Of course, the recipes and variations are multiple according to every family's tradition. The Potjevleesch is usually prepared the night before for the next day. It is served cold, traditionally with potatoes, fries and/or salad, and quite often, you end up asking for more!

Bread created by Olga.L

Bread is my staple food, the staff of life as someone once said. There is splendid wonderfulness when eating bread, whether it is sourdough, 5 grains, hot cross buns with plenty of butter or just watching it "grow" (rise) before being placed into the oven. This entry gives way to the feeling that I will need a triple cardiac bypass if I eat this...BUT oh my it is my kinda food, the kind that sits in your gut and warms you all over. Bacon, bread and butter...not every day but sometimes as a treat. Photographically your setup is very nice with sharp focus on the bacon and softening on the background....the end of the knife could have been included in the frame so as to hold of eyes longer on the shot. You put thought into this presentation and the brick backdrop works well to give it a rustic feel. Lovely, thank you.

Wayne-Cheah avatarLevel 11
Wayne-Cheah replied to Olga.L :

Yes, the idea is to set a country cottage scene where the 3Bs are an almost everyday stable without much fear of a "triple cardiac bypass" because of the daily hard physical work farming people put in.

I would swim the 7 seas for chocolate, it is for certain the food of the gods. With this image there is much to focus on from books (I wanted to see what it was you were reading) to glasses, to cup...much clutter and there is the little chocolate which ought to be front and center. The story you have provided with this image is very rich with even a bite of chocolate showing.

Wayne-Cheah avatarLevel 11
Wayne-Cheah replied to Olga.L :

Quote:- "...with even a bite of chocolate showing"

Yes, you guessed the message of the image spot-on; one bite of chocolate makes all the difference in whatever you're doing.

In ancient South American societies, (where the Cacao tree originated), chocolate was offered to the gods. Even the gods like it, and that was without the milk and sugar in modern chocolate.
