Photo Contest: Birds

Photography Posted by Staaan

Here's the first official photo contest of /c/photography! The plan is to start these regularly, when the audience grows we can introduce some interesting rewards!

The goal of this contest is to post your best photos of birds. Birds aren't always easy to photograph. It helps to use a big lens and to have some basic understanding of birds and their habitats.

So grab your gear, head into nature and take some glorious shots of wild or captured birds!

Best of luck!

PS: After uploading an entry, you can press the 'edit' button to add additional information to your entry. When submissions close, there will be a 2 day voting period.

What's that red on his beak and eye?

denlig avatarLevel 8
denlig replied to IEatRawEggs :

It is a silver goeland, Its somewhat severe look is underlined with a red line. It is an area of bare skin called an orbital circle. It is more or less visible depending on the mood of the bird. It’s a way to communicate with fellow humans.
The more angry the goeland is, the more red his "eyes" are!
For food, the chicks tap on the red spot on their parents' beaks. This automatically causes the regurgitation of a fish puree they are fond of!

Olga.L avatarLevel 16
Olga.L replied to denlig :

This is good information. I learned something new today. AND I like the crispness of your image and the mood caught. Very nice.

That is both beautiful and disgusting πŸ˜…

You do have some dust spots on your lens, this is the bane of all photographers. A closer view of these pigeons would have had a greater impact. This is a great scene to see as one is walking along crowded streets.
