In psychology, the empty chair technique is used in counseling sessions to help a patient open up and recreate emotions about circumstances in their current life. The patient sits across an empty chair and imagines the chair is used by a person in their life or a past version of themselves.

This allows them to reveal their emotions without actually hurting the feelings of the person they are talking to. After that, the patient sits in the empty chair and responds to himself as the other person.

A psychologist or therapist can use this technique to help release cropped up feelings in a patient.

This contest is all about that empty chair. Try to take a photo of a chair that goes beyond the actual chair. Take a photo of a chair that captures emotion and tells a story. If there is a backstory, please also include it in a reply to your photo.

Never has a bench been sat on by so many

Zizounai avatarLevel 15
Zizounai replied to IEatRawEggs :

Thanks for your comment, Ieat. This bench is located near a mountain lake in a narrow path. It never saw any crowd, only tired trekkers or lonely lovers! Now it is so full of moss that only people already dressed in green would dare sitting on it ;-)

Oh gosh this looks so Canadian. It reminds me of home...is that a Peter Harkness duck carving?

It's not Canadian, but we are in upstate New York. I have no idea who did the duck. My sons gave it to me for my birthday many years ago.
