Photo Contest: Cooling Off

Photography Posted by Staaan

Cooling off can mean different things for different people. For some, it could be about getting their body temperature down under ultra-hot summer weather with a few bottles of chilled drinks. While for others, it could be finding the best way to relax after a long day or finding some recreational time to spend with family or friends. So, the question is what does cool off mean for you and how do you do so?

As a grasshopper you probably not aware Iquannas, being cold blooded, could only warm-up and not cool down? :)

grasshopper1 avatarLevel 11
grasshopper1 replied to Wayne-Cheah :

I'm a Floridian and they do cool down :) when their body temperature gets to high. As in this case..the outside temp was in the 90's and the ground was sweltering. The swallow part of the lake is very warm and parts of his chest is regulating the heat from the warm sand. Thank you for noticing. :)

What a timely catch and it is a hilarious photograph that caused a smile to bloom on my face. AND I love the "look" of the bird, that sexy "come hither" look. CONGRATS on second place.

Thank you so much for your kind comment. The real fun began after this shot, when the little crow tried to submerge the entire body.

I think it's more interested in what's in the water than the water itself.

The little ones don't need cooling :)

grasshopper1 avatarLevel 11
grasshopper1 replied to IEatRawEggs :

The water is just the right temp for the mother but actually would be too cold for the kids. So the rock acts as a heat rock until their older or the sun stays out for a while and heats the shallows. Thank you for taking the time to notice the pic.
