Yes, yes, ... It's cliché to have a Christmas contest around this time, but that doesn't mean it's straightforward to make an impactful photo of it.
Angle, lighting, background and minimizing noise to put emphasis on the tree, are all important factors.
Whether you put up a Christmas tree on your own or you have to go out and find one, make sure to photograph a nice tree in an artistic manner. Both plastic and natural Christmas trees are allowed, but there must be at least some form of decoration on it.
Some rules to keep in mind:
- The tree has to be completely visible in the frame. So no pictures of decoration or parts of the tree.
- There can be no people in your photo. Other objects (like presents under the tree) are fine, but the main emphasis must be on the tree.
- Minimal post-processing (such as blurring the background or removing unwanted distractions) are allowed.
- Both inside and outside photos are allowed.

PS: Try to vote on all entries in the contest. The more votes we get, the more accurate the rankings will be. Also, when you see something on someone's entry that can be improved, let them know. That way, we can learn new skills from each other!
PS 2: Ideas for future contests can be submitted here. The best ideas will be picked and turned into a contest. Make sure to clearly define the rules and objectives of the contest.
