As you may have noticed, we have some more statistics on the contests now.
What else would you like to see?
Post it here and I will implement it!
Could we please have the ability to put a Title and description on our entries before they are submitted?
This is something that has been planned for a while now
I will build that in the weekend! :)
What about, you drop your entry (it's not visible by anyone yet) and then you get presented with an optional title and description to fill? When you press save on that, the entry becomes public.
Sounds like a good plan to me. 👍
You can give it a try now :)
Title is on top of the picture, description below
Thanks Staaan. I will try it out when I post my next entry.
Could we please have the option to edit our entries like we did at Pxleyes? I just added a shadow to an area of mine as suggested in a critique and I can't update the entry.
@staaan YES!!! We used to be able to do that here but it doesn't allow us to edit anymore. I was able to edit my Animal Mashup image.
I want to participate but have to clue how to
What could you do to encourage members to give critiques? I have no idea....a reward of some kind like allowing an extra submission for the best reviewer of the month/week etc?
Could you provide a space where we could go to learn about other members?
@Olga-Leskiw-Suzuki Please hop on the Discord server! We have several people already there, in the #photography room we can discuss these things.
OK I think I managed that but I couldn't find anyone there....it was empty. Thank you Staaaaaan.
Is there a place where we can post or read FAQ's about this site?
There's this so far: https://grepless.com/c/meta-grepless/what-is-grepless
Nothing about the contests yet.
I want to take over the rules we had on Pxleyes, but loosen them up a little.
Please don't make the contest rules as strict as we had on Pxleyes. It was a pain trying to keep track of every single source and linking to it separately. It was ok if we only had two or three source pictures but a total headache when we used ten or more sources. I think strict rules like those cause many people to not even bother entering the contests because of all the effort it takes to keep track of everything. It tends to ruin the fun a bit and turns it into too much work. It is much easier to just put all sources on one picture and post that someplace. It would be good if we could post the source pics under our work though so people don't need to click on a link to see them on a different page. It would be even better if posting source pics was optional. Many photoshop sites don't even ask members to post sources but simply trust that they are doing the right thing with choosing creative commons sources.
Nono, it won't be so strict.
But contests have to remain fair as well.
We need to find a healthy middle ground
I am sure you will find the right balance. Thanks for all your hard work in creating this site and all your continued improvements.
I really do like having one image with all the sources. In my opinion it's good because we can see that they actually Photoshopped it. We have already had issues where people were questioning a Chop. We had to talk to the artist about it and they explained. If that person had posted their source images, there would not have been a problem and people could have enjoyed the Chop more.
I also wanted to ask about "stories". Are "stories" just what you call "posts" or "threads" on this site? Can anyone start a "thread" in any category including contests, or just admin? The word "stories" tends to make me think of forms of literature like fiction, horror, romance, etc under a writing category. It might make people hesitate to start a post if they think they need to write an actual story in a writing category?
Yes, stories are links, pictures, videos, blog posts, text posts... any form of media you see here.
Anyone can add a story, just click on the little + icon in the tabs. Upload something, write some text or post a link. Only I can make the contests for now.
How would call the stories? Just posts?
That's up to you. I just wanted to clarify what they were. I think calling them "posts" or "discussions" would be less confusing but once we know that "stories" are just posts, there is no more confusion. Maybe calling them "discussions" would actually generate more discussions and interaction on them? Anyway, they are just suggestions. In the end, it's your site and your choice as to what you label them.
It would also be nice to have an option for people to ask for a critique if they actually want it on their contest entries. Not all people actually want critique on their work so I tend to hesitate to give any unless it is specifically asked for or I know the person would appreciate it.
Or the option to disable comments on their entry perhaps? Like we had on Pxleyes.
Yes, that would be great. I didn't even realize we had that option on Pxleyes.
Another question.... I am full of them today... ;-) It's about the bronze, siler and gold achievements. How do they work and can we give other members those kind of awards or does it depend on how many votes their comments get?
Only a few people can hand these out for now.
What is currently being implemented is each person having a fixed amount of awards to give away to other people each month. This amount can then be increased by helping others and posting quality stories
I think it's a good idea.
We can add Titles and descriptions but I can't seem to be able to edit\/update my Mixed Media image now. I want to replace it with this. https://i.ibb.co/XX5Q8ft/The-Big-Catch.jpg
